I met Kim, from Australia, at the hostel and she came along. Had a great day. Took a bunch more pics that Ill post once I get my computer hooked back up.

Facebook = Stupid? Maybe

Just read an interesting article on the intelligence of people who use Facebook for social interaction.

Link to article:
http://www.roughtype.com/archives/2011/04/is_facebook_gea.php

I have never been interested in Facebook, or its predecessor, Myspace. I have always felt they were more of a waste of time than they were productive. For marketing your business it can be a great idea but for personal use its simply a waste of time. Its just one mans opinion but its nice to know that others feel the same way.

A Quickie Before Bed

Just wanted to comment on something that happened to me today before I went to bed. I was headed down NE Sandy pulling my loaded trailer behind my truck. The posted speed limit was 35 but I was doing about 30mph. Anyone who has pulled a trailer knows that it takes a lot longer to stop. Unfortunately almost everyone else fails to realize this.

I say this because some damn jaywalker decided to cross the street and simply expected me to stop for him. He was not in a crosswalk or even near a crosswalk. I slammed my brakes and managed to stop while he looked at me like I was the idiot. He flailed his arms in a slow down motion while he straddled the lane lines. I know that we, as drivers, need to watch out for pedestrians but if you decide to jaywalk... you better have some common sense of your own. I don't care if he was down and out, drunk, or just stupid (I vote stupid), wake up and realize that in the battle of human flesh vs metal vehicle... vehicle always wins.

He then had the audacity to pull out his phone and attempt to take a picture of my vehicle as if he was going to report me or something.

Basically... if you decide to jaywalk you better be prepared to jayrun.

Flat Tire!

With only 50 miles to go I caught a flat. Luckily I was in the burger king parking lot when I saw my tire bubbling. Firestone was less than a mile away. Its a good thing because my bottle jack wouldn't even fit under the axle. Its 12:00 and I'm back on the road. Thanks for the spare Arthur.

Doggie Doo with a view

Even Mattie would have a nice place to do her thing.

Grants Pass, Night Two

Stopped in Grants Pass for the night. Im at Moon Mountain RV Park which seems really nice and has some great views of the mountains. Only about 250 miles left till Portland. Ive been getting about 8-10 miles per gallon... Ouch! 91 octane gets a little better mpg than 87.

Greedy gasmongers

What a rip. Its like this everywhere so far.

On to Shasta

Only about 100 miles left to the I5.

Reno or Bust

See ya Fallon. If you are ever here in Fallon be sure to eat at the Slanted Porch restaurant.

A True Multitasker

Check out this guy. Need something to occupy your time while you're driving? How about whittling? If you look closely you can see he's carving some kind of animal.

Droid 2 Available Now - Get it for only 74.99

The Motorola Droid 2 is now available... Yes! I have been trying to find the best deal available and to my surprise there are already some major discounts to be found.

Dell is offering the Droid 2 for $149.99 with free shipping. You can get it straight from Verizon for $169.99 after using the "switch30" coupon code. Wirefly.com has the Droid 2 for $149.99 and it comes with a free Bluetooth headset with coupon code "wireflyblue22" and free shipping.

The best deal of all is through LetsTalk.com. They currently have the Droid 2 for the bargain price of only 99.99 after an instant $100 online discount. To sweeten the deal use coupon code "25rafpcver1" to get an additional $25 off! This brings the grand total for a brand new Droid 2 to $74.99 and shipping is free as well. I couldn't pass this deal up and I just finished ordering one for myself.

Keep in mind that all the offers above require a 2 year contract through Verizon and a minimum data plan.

Free Android Apps Caught Stealing Personal Info

In the Android world it is easy to find an app that can do what you're looking for. But you have to be careful with your decisions. Before installing a new app be sure to do some research. Check out the app's home page and read any reviews that other users have posted on the Android Marketplace. If you can't find much information on the app and it is from a new developer you may want to hold off. If it doesn't feel or look right in any way just don't download it.

Even if an app looks friendly and doesn't need to access any personal data to operate... it doesn't mean that it isn't doing something in the background that the user cannot see or detect. In Android... Apps can "piggyback" other apps on the the device that have full permissions... thus giving the limited app full permissions.
